BCBG Max Azria Pre-Fall 2011

Bravo to BCBG, I am in LOVE! :) I feel like there is a somber elegance to this collection that is really refreshing and new. I'm really loving it because this collection signifies a change in fashion, okay maybe it's a bit of an exaggeration. But it is definitely something different from what has been on the runway, while also still being wearable. I love the simplistic modern pieces like the jacket in the third look can be paired with more of their bolder dresses this season! And I just love it, and I haven't been able to say that in a while. :)

UPDATES:
+ 3 more days until Christmas. I'm kinda excited.. now.. even though Christmas shopping was not fun for me. lol. Well technically 2 days because my family celebrates on Christmas Eve! :)

+ I have been cleaning my studio, and working on starting my project that I'd love to get started now! But it takes time. And I'm working on being realistic with my own time. haha. It is definetely tough.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS! What are you guys up to??

Been a long time...

It's always really exciting to see what designers dream up for the next big wedding. And if you didn't already know, Prince William will be marrying Kate Middleton!!

Fabric Manipulation Project

Photos from start to finish of my fabric manipulation project. 1. from the pattern and the cutting of the fabric. 2. The sewing of the actual garment, and matching it up and everything. 3. 4. The straps on the back, I had to individually iron, pin, trim, and flip inside out.

So taking pictures of the process of creating a dress, is actually a lot more challenging than I thought, since I was so consumed by sewing, I almost forgot to take pictures. But I remembered! :) I really loved the way it turned out. I have been working with knits and patterns all semester, with my menswear jacket as well and also for my last project as well.

I hope everyone had an amazing thanksgiving break! I got a lot of rest, and I'm ready to tackle the last couple of weeks of the fall semester! Get excited!!! :)

Fashionable Cause: Maasai Made: The Kenya Project

I'm really excited to present the Maasai Made: The Kenya Project! They just had their product launch this past Thursday. I believe that this project is very exciting and has a lot of potential! Especially since it is so close to home, launched and organized by a group of Marymount students with the assistance of the dean of the school of business.

"Maasai Made is a project initiative that is taking place at Marymount University. The objective of this project is to make hand-made crafts available to the public for purchase. The jewelry is made by a very talented tribe in Kenya, the Lturoto."

100% of the sales go back to the Lturoto tribe. One of the students at Marymount is actually from this tribe. The Lturoto tribe is nomadic in nature, and by purchasing products from the Maasai Made project, you can support there lifestyle and give them opportunities to purchase water and other necessities.

They primarily have jewelry, ornaments as well as key chains for sale right now. My favorite jewelry piece was definitely the bangles, which I bought and love wearing!! They're pretty fashion forward and very easy to match with your every day look! Also, every jewelry piece or accessory is one-of-a-kind so you know you are getting a unique jewelry that is both charming and for a good cause!

They are currently working on their website, and when that launches I'll update ya'll! :)

Alexander Mcqueen never ceases to amaze me.

Here are some belated- awards, that I didn't have a chance to put up yet. I am really trying to be a better blogger at least posting once a week. It's one of the new goals that I have.

Thank you, Gabrielle!!! Your blog is amazing, and I love guest posting for ya!

And also thank you to the lovely Sheena of The Layered Pancake. She's the sweetest blogger I know! :)

Belated

A couple of pictures from my 21st birthday! I am a cupcake fiend.. if you couldn't tell.. haha.

I'm definetely getting back to myself again. I'm starting some goals of mine to start working on my project and my business. I shouldn't just focus on school... because school isn't life. I need to find something outside of school. And I feel like I will. I've been optimistic, and I think this optimism will stick around for a while. I'm making changes in my life. And I'm happy about them.

Why Hello Diane!!

I had the pleasure of seeing Diane Von Furstenberg speak at Georgetown University on Monday.

She told her life story, and how she made it as she has today. And it was just amazing, because a long with her speech she would put photos up on slides, to really emphasize her point and to tell a wonderful story. She has had such a lucrative career in fashion while also changing it up from books to cosmetics, which I previously knew nothing about. Not only did she tell her story, but she truly did inspire me. And on that note here are some things that really stuck with me:

"important to have clarity... to love what you do. It's important to make sense, and if you don't believe in it, it won't work"

" Clarity + Strategy = Success"

"Generosity is the best investment.. it protects your karma" - on working with Vital Voices.

" The most important relationship is with yourself".

She really did inspire me, and makes me want to be a designer of that scale. And I refuse to let anyone stop me!! :)

UPDATES:
  • My 21st birthday was last weekend, still not sure if I want to put pictures up from them, but they're on my facebook account, not my sourtang page. :) But maybe pictures to come just to show what I wore.
  • This week has just been super uber inspirational with spoken poetry from the Asia Project , really got me thinking about my life and all the things going on in it. And then my first happy hour, with one of my best friends Maria.. she reminds me of all the things I want to do. And how I don't need someone to hold me back. But its hard when you just like someone or that uncertainty of my own feelings.
Truly, missing commenting on everyone's lovely blogs, and thank you everyone for the amazing comments, and support! And also pictures from fashion events to come. I've also been more inspired to work on my personal projects, and not devoting my entire present to school work.

What I Wore

Tie Dyee!! :D I was in a really happy mood the other day, and this is what I wore. Something flowy, comfy and cute.
Sometimes when I wear this shirt, I feel like I look wierd.. butttt.. comfort over the wierdness feeling. :)

Updates on my life:
  • Still the same, pretty busy. But I'm excited, I'm volunteering for a fashion show tonight at the Ritz Carlton!
  • Not much going on right now, except that I'm glad its Saturday and finally, sorta, have time to blog. Right now, I'm working on flats for tenniswear for my product development project. Once the project is completed, I'll make a full post about it. It's really a challenge. But I love a challenge. :)
  • And I'm still loving my internship at this time. And it's a bit scary how fast the spring semester is approaching. This winter break, I'm planning to sew a lot, and hopefully a photoshoot, and travelling to NY. And job searching, and resume fixing. :) Its like my life isn't about to stop anytime soon, and I love it, but it can be quite exhausting.

I miss you guys!! How have you all been??

Words, Words, Its all we have...

I have been in a particularly thoughtful mood for some time now.
I'm always thinking lately. And being way too intense for my own good.
But it's the way I am sometimes. :) Just some quotes ... to inspire myself and remind me things.
It's time to let go, move on, and follow my heart! Shit happens, but after it all you realize your stronger than before.

I know this isn't my typical blog post. But sometimes fashion majors can get philosophical! :D

Happy Monday!! I hope you all have an amazing week!!
